KATE MCDOWELL

I found Kate McDowell's works interesting and relevant to the consciousness of today's society. I also found her works well thought out and executed according to her design. I was impressed at the level of detail she was able to achieve and the amount of texture was able to render. I found the lecture to be a very good glimpse into the thought process of a working artist.

Kate MacDowell

Kate MacDowell's work is amazing! Her artwork gives me a feeling of sensation. For example, the head with flies make me feel as if there were flies on my face. I also like the foot with the crawling vines. It makes me feel as if the the vines were wrapping around my feet. I like how she emphasizes the connection between nature and humans in her work. Overall, I think all her pieces are brilliant because they are all well crafted and unique in different ways.

Kate mcdowell

Kate mcdowell's vivacious yet simplistic sculpture really caught my interest in her lecture. I was impressed to engage in such strong emotions and feelings due to her art. I wish I could purchase her artwork. The use if lights in her artwork really impressed me because it set a mood for her pieces. Well done.

Kate MacDowell

I really enjoyed her artwork. What I liked about her pieces was they all stand for something. What I found interesting from all of her work was the theme about Men and Nature. In her pieces she talks about how human kind is destroying the environment. her pieces are amazing to look at.

Kate MacDowell

Even though, I was not able to stay until the end of Kate MacDowell's lecture, I really enjoyed her lecture and enjoyed looking over her slides of artwork. All of her artwork looked very interesting and creative. Out of all Kate MacDowell's pieces, piece that caught my eyes was the bird that had a human figure inside of its body. Well, she used more of a deathfigure of human than an actual human figure. And the bird looked like it was suffering for some reasons. I thought this piece has got a lot of meanings in its details. And I thought all of her pieces somehow made an connection between the human and the natural world.

Mc Dowells

"Remember, you must die." That is the one thing that I cannot get out of my head. Her pieces were very beautiful and interested. She also mentioned that everytime she was about to start a piece, she would always have a tittle first, than she would go from there. Going back to "vanitas" I do admire all the work that every artist makes, but I think that art that is related to death and crime or fear is beyond creativity, is really speaking what is on your mind.

Some Awesome Chess Set Pieces

Here are a couple of chess set pieces I saw on google images and thought were very cool.

Kate Macdowell

I thought the lecture was very interesting and I enjoyed all of her slides. You could tell by the way she presented each of her pieces that she put a lot of time and thought into what it represented. I have never seen a porcelain piece up close before, and it amazed me how much detail was put into some of the pieces. As a ceramic artist I liked how she elaborated on where she had gotten her ideas from, as well as how her work has expanded through social networks. How her pieces were mutated and combined together was very creative, and my favorite pieces from her were the ones that illuminated. The light brought out how translucent porcelain is while showing all of her detailed work. It was cool to know that she used the ideas and concepts from Vanitas too!

Kate Macdowell Sculpture

I found it interesting that she works mainly in porcelain. I saw porcelain clay for the first time last semester; it did seem very forgiving. Out of all her work, my favorites were probably the Daphne piece where her head was still together but screaming against the violence, and the photos of some of her pieces when illuminated from the inside. The illuminated artworks had beautiful shadow forms! Honestly, I was more interested in the stories from myths to now than the poem lines to art pieces. It's nice that Kate Macdowell's sculpture all has the same feeling and message to them. It just means her message is more likely to get out there and effect people.

I just thought it was funny that I went to GOOGLE "cubism chess set" and the featured person in the logo was a former SJSU grad and Disney animation artist...

Anyways, Cubism chess looks pretty cool:

Super Mario!

After sitting for 2hrs hearing people disputing with one another... I think WE should do Super Mario instead of Disney. Super Mario has good and evil. There are characters who are cute, cartoony, weird, goofy, you name it. This would bring back a sense of nostalgia. Right? I know most of us played a Mario game some time in their life. Who hasn't? And please don't give me that video games is a guy thing. It's for girls too! I heard some of us complain about how it's going to be tedious putting details on Disney characters. I feel that the characters in Super Mario would slightly be easier to do because most characters use basic shapes and the details aren't as bad as Disney characters. Lastly, we did not even come to a closure with our Disney theme and I think it should be thrown in the trash. +1 for Super Mario. -Russell (:

Bellla Feldman

First of all, I enjoyed Mrs. Bella Feldman's lecture. She seemed like she really is love in what she does and love in all of her artwork. Out of all the slides she showed us, I loved how Mrs. Feldman connected mutations in rats into art. I thought it was very creative to come up with some ideas about relating mutations in evolution into creative metal artwork. Also, I liked how she made all the weapons of war into little toys. Most of her art works were very interesting and creative.

bella fieldman

I really enjoyed Bella's presentation. In particular, I found it interesting that she collaborates with other artists to create mixed media works. I like the way she used negative space in her pieces through long flowing shapes. Her found object sculptures were also pretty cool. I enjoyed seeing the progression of her artistic style through the slides. The political message behind the war toys added another dimension to her art that I appreciate as well.

Bella Feldman

I really loved how it was so obvious that she loves what she does so much. She spends so much time on each project of hers and I though that everything she did was amazing. I think that my favorite work of hers would have to be the turtles. I loved how life-like they looked.

Bella Feldman

I though Bella Feldman's presentation of her artwork was very interesting. You can tell that she is very passionate about her artwork not to mention talented. Because she is a small woman, her ability to create such large structures amazed me. She had a variety of art series that she shared with us which I thought was very abstract. I thought her artwork was inspiring and motivating because she did come from SJSU. The fact that she is a successful alumni gives me good hope for the future. One thing that stood out to me was when she said "making art is addicting". She said she had to constantly be doing something because she loved it so much. She has so much drive and love for the things she makes.

Bella Feldman

One thing that i gainned from attending this lecture is that art is an addiction and that you need to be addicted to your art. I felt like i should be more addicted and dedicated to my moche pot since it is time consuming. Bella's lecture was interesting and i have never seen any art works like hers before. She said that she put everything she found together to make one of her art piece and i thought that was pretty interesting as well. My favorite one was the hats on the wall. Just like how Bella was standing under the hat as if she was wearing it, i wanted to do that as well.
